Over 2,500 experts in Ultrasound will be heading their way to the Sultanate of Oman in 2023

Following a presentation in Melbourne, Australia, Oman has been chosen for the 2023 congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB). The winning bid was led by Dr Jokha Al Kabani President of the Oman Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (OSUM) and Dr Saqar Al Tai and Dr Saad Al Juma, both OSUM board members.

Previous congresses have been held in Melbourne, Australia and Taipei and Orlando, Florida and Sao Paulo in Brazil and the 2021 edition will be in Romania. The mission of WFUMB is to bring sustainable ultrasound programs to the underserved areas of the world and to improve global healthcare through collaboration, communication and education.

Dr Jokha Al Kabani said “Oman is in the epicentre of a region of the globe with growing populations in need of quality ultrasound and we whole heartedly support the mission of WFUMB to bring sustainable ultrasound programs to the underserved areas of the world.”

Khalid Al Zadjali, Director of the Oman Convention Bureau added, “It is expected that more than 2,500 experts will attend the congress from all over the globe with many internationally renowned speakers covering the latest advances in ultrasound. We will ensure that they have the most successful conference ever and we will shower them with our warm Omani hospitality.”

The Oman Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (OSUM) is a non for profit society which was founded in May 2019 by multidisciplinary professionals. It aims is to develop the clinical use of Ultrasound in different applications in the clinical practice. The vision of OSUM is to develop the use of ultrasound in Oman in all related specialities by providing training, implementing best practice and research and to make the practice of ultrasound in medicine safe and effective for better care.

“Ultrasound in Oman plays a vital role in medical practice in dealing with many medical, emergency and critical cases. It has been increasingly used in the diagnosis and treatment in various medical specialties outside of the radiology department.” said Dr Jokha Al Kabani President of OSUM. She added ”Key highlights of the conference will include educational programs regarding various subspecialties and related applications of Ultrasound in its practice. The scientific content will be organised by world renowned experts in their fields and will be cover up to date innovation and invention in the field.”

About OSUM:

The Oman Society of Ultrasound in Medicine is a non for profit society established in May 2019 by multidisciplinary professionals. It aims to develop the clinical uses of Ultrasound in different application in the clinical practice. It’s mission is to improve safe practice of ultrasound in medicine and related fields.

This is by working cooperatively toward enhance the training and qualifications of ultrasound users by conducting courses and workshops for healthcare providers of all disciplines on the use of ultrasound. About OCEC

The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre is located in its own fully integrated precinct only four kilometres from Muscat International Airport. The design of the Centre ensures a flow of the meeting spaces to suit the most discerning conference and exhibition organisers. The Precinct provides the infrastructure necessary to host successful international, regional and local events and is there for the enjoyment of delegates, visitors and the local community. The precinct includes a JW Marriott Hotel (five star) linked to the Convention Centre, Crowne Plaza Hotel (four star). A business park, surrounded by a nature reserve, which is a haven for Oman’s exotic birdlife, together with parklands and a wadi (valley), are also part of this picturesque precinct.
